The mobile phone

Nowadays, we are surrounded by many new technologies and the mobile phone is one of them. In this essay I am going to argue about not using a mobile phone while driving a car.

In this part of the argument I would like to make it clear that this little device is very necessary to us and it became a part of our life for several reasons. The main reason is it makes our life easy when we communicate with each other for any emergency or ask about each other’s conditions. Another reason is if your car is broken-down in a remote area you will need to ask for help. A further reason is to help police to locate the criminals by satellite .Also while they hunt them they should talk with somebody to show them the direction to those criminals. The final reason is if you get a call from anybody, for instance friend or family or anybody in danger that needs help from you, you will need somebody to show you the direction.

However, even though the mobile is important for us that does not prevent some disadvantages. The first disadvantage is it is one of the reasons which leads to car accidents and that is based on research about car accidents. The second disadvantage is it keeps you busy from anybody who accompanies you in the car. The final reason is some scientists say the mobile phone affects your brain when you are driving more than when you are not and that is because while you are driving you concentrate on two things and with one thing if you are not.

In conclusion, this little machine helps us a lot in our life, but at the same time it affected us .In my opinion it depends on how, when and where to use it.

Traffic and parking

Traffic and parking problems are two of the most important problems in the world. Abu Dhabi the capital of the UAE was affected and is still affected until now by this problem. In this essay I will mention the causes of this problem and I will try to find some solution.

However, first of all the main cause is the increasing population. In 1970 the population was around 700,000 people, but now in 2010 is about 45, 00,000 people. Another problem is there are more taxis and at the same time more tourists. A further problem is the younger female drivers and that is because of the system of the police issuing the license at 18 years old. In addition, because of the industrial development and the need to transfer the materials from place to place they need more commercial trucks and vans.

The first solution is to have different kinds of transportation for instance to built the metro like in Dubai and that will decrease traffic congestion. The second solution is we try to find spaces to build parking or underground parking. Another solution is to educate the people for example about how to park their cars in an appropriate way without disturb the others. Another solution is the police department should increase the cost of cars registration.

In conclusion, nowadays vehicles are very important to the people. In my opinion the best solution is to put a rule which says each house must have one car only. It will be difficult in the beginning even for me, but we will get used to it in the future.

Dangerous storms

The table demonstrates some details about two powerful storms, hurricanes and tornadoes. Bothe is unsafe and destructive and there are many remarkable differences between them.

First all, the maximum speed of tornadoes is 250-300 mph, whereas the maximum speed of hurricanes is around 155-200 mph. On the other hand the minimum speed of hurricanes about 74 mph, is higher than that of a tornado 40 mph. The tornadoes are classified on the Fujita FO F5 scale, while the hurricanes are recorded on the Seffir Simpson C1 scale. Hurricanes last for a few minutes until few hours. A tornado can be predicated around 20 minutes or less in advance, but hurricanes can be predicted 2 or 3 days in advance in an open area and 6-10 hours in a close area. A hurricane affects a larger area than a tornado.

Overall, tornadoes are more dangerous than hurricanes because we cannot predict them easily.

Brunei and the UAE

Brunei and the UAE are both beautiful countries. In this essay I am going to compare and contrast two countries, Brunei and the UAE.

There are several similarities between these two countries. Both have the same religion, Islam and a lot of people live in both countries and each has a large expatriate population. In addition, most people think that both countries are beautiful and green with lots of parks and trees. Furthermore, both countries have huge modern towers, modern airports and well-developed infrastructures.

Although they have some similarities, there are many differences. First and most obvious is size. The UAE has an area of 185,180 square kilometers while Brunei is only 11,437 square kilometers. A further difference is the currency. In UAE they use the dirham, whereas the currency of Brunei is the ringgit. Another difference is climate. The weather in Brunei is much better than the UAE because it is rainy and less humid .Brunei's unique houses protects them from the rains. Furthermore, the roads are quieter in Brunei, which is less busy. A final difference is education.

Both countries are interesting countries to visit, safe and there are many comfortable places you can stay and enjoy. The UAE is my country and I like it so much. Despite this I prefer to live in Brunei for several reasons and the most important one is I like adventure and that is a good chance for me to do it. Also the weather is very nice especially if it is rainy because I like rain very much.

Reflection 2 (process and compare and contrast)

Reflection 2 process and compare and contrast esaays

English lesson 125 in the writing section is easy and at the same time hard in some ways. I learnt writing procedure and Compare and contrast.

The writing process was easy, but nothing is easy without practice .It’s a good thing to learn new thing and developing my writing to the next step that is one of the many reasons which let me feel confident in this type of writing. also I must write around 150 words in present simple (passive voice) sequences linking words such as first, second ,next…etc .I faced some difficulties in linking words such as the, a tie in beginning and middle of the sentences , also at the same time I should add some more words from my knowledge to get completed sentences and must the verbs to be in past participle with is for single and are for plural adding before them .In addition, I should concentrate on when the flow chart starts and follow until the end to put the steps in the right order and that was a little hard because sometimes you can mix that by putting one order before the other and when you continue you will get the whole procedure wrong in the order of steps.

However, compare and contrast essay is the most difficult one because I must discover the similarities and differences between two things and write about it logically supported by reasons. The essay contains introduction about three sentences, at least 3 or 4 similarities discussion, at least 3 or 4 differences discussion and a conclusion you should say what you prefer and in the same no need to be negative against one side .The main problem when I write I must think how to make this compare and contrast attractive to the reader and connected with how much information I have, by writing about 200 words. But, as I said, with more practice you will achieve your goal.

I would like to learn more from Mr. Hedley and I want to thank him for his help and encouraging me a lot until I reached my goal. In the end of this course I want to thank every single one for any help I got from him.

UAE & Brazil Foot ball

Most countries in the world have a football team, and Brazil and the UAE are no exceptions. I will describe the similarities and differences between the two teams, and say which one I would prefer to watch.

Like Brazil, the UAE is a member of FIFA which is an international body for regulating football. This means that both teams have eleven players, and substitutes are allowed. Both teams play to a system that has been agreed with the coaches beforehand. Brazil and the UAE defend when necessary but prefer to attack.

However, there are many differences in the style of play. Brazil plays at a higher level than the UAE and has won the World Cup. The former are fitter and faster than the latter and can adopt their style of play easily. This is because the Brazilian players have experience with teams all over the world while the UAE players usually play for local teams.

World rankings prove that Brazil is easily the better team. Despite this, I would prefer to watch the UAE. There are several reasons for this but the most important one is that the UAE has a huge potential. They are an emerging nation in football, and it is interesting to see new talent. Also, this country has many skilful players who will improve with experience.

National day

National day is a great event in our life and for the UAE as a country and population. This event is one of many events we can celebrate and reflect our happiness in this beloved country.

In this year it was the biggest occasion I had ever .First of all, I went with my friends to a decoration car store and I decorated my car by putting some stickers and photos of our president. Also we bought some flags to stick them on the car. One of these flags was so big we covered the car roof with it .After that we went to Abu Dhabi Corniche which was the starting point of this celebration. All people gathered there came from different emirates to celebrate on this big day. We drove around Abu Dhabi several times with this group of people and during the festival we pressed the car horn continually to express our pleasure. We had sung and danced before we arrived in Abu Dhabi. I saw many of my relatives and friends when I was celebrating.

In conclusion, I learnt how to celebrate with a group of people and express my feeling in this event. I enjoyed so much with my friends and I hope to celebrate this event again next year.

Reflection

English lesson 125 in the writing section is easy and at the same time hard in some ways. I learnt writing procedure and narrative essay

The writing procedure was easy, but nothing is easy without practice .It’s a good thing to learn it from the basics and that is one of the many reasons which let me feel confident in this type of writing. also I must write around 150 words in present simple (active voice).I faced some difficulties in linking words such as the ,a in the beginning and middle of the sentences and also at the same time I should add some more words from my knowledge to get completed sentences .For the flow chart I should concentrate on when the flow chart starts and follow until the end to put the steps in the Wright order and that was a little hard because sometimes you can mix that by putting one order before the other and when you continue you will get the whole procedure wrong in the order of steps .

However, the narrative essay is the most difficult one because it has the most types of tenses present simple, past simple ,past continuous ,past perfect and I must use them all and in the right time and place or I will not get a good mark. The main problem when I write a story is I must think how to make this story attractive to the reader and connected with my real life, as it happened to me, by writing about 200 words. But, as I said, with more practice you will achieve your goal.

I would like to thank Mr. Hedley for his help and encouraging me a lot until I reached my goal. I hope to learn more from this course which will be useful to me in the future.

Last summer

my holiday last summer

I would like to talk about my holiday last summer. I planned a few months for this holiday and I was very excited. It’s good to do some change every year or I can call it refreshing away from routine life.

However, I decided with my friends that after a long consideration to travel to Thailand. Of course there were many reasons to choose this country which has beautiful natural views and it is more appropriate to our budget than the other countries. We booked a package including 7 nights in the five star Hilton hotel. We flew in the middle of the night at 12:00 pm and spent 4 hours flying on UAE air line. When we arrived we went directly to the hotel. After that we began our tour. In the evening we went to a famous restaurant cooking traditional Thai food and it was delicious. Then we went to historical places. One place was a big castle. Inside it were a lot of 200 years old statues and some of them aged more than that. It was an amazing castle. We continued our tour the next day to the zoo and there we saw many animals : Asian lions, golden fishes and the famous snake anaconda. It was a huge and scary one .in the next three days we took a trip around the island and we enjoyed the cloudy weather, fishing and diving. I had some diving lessons before I went to the trip only to refresh my mind. The last two days we relaxed in the hotel in the jacuzzi and sauna.

In fact, I got many benefits from this journey. I enjoyed so much with my friends and I hope to do it again next summer.
